Aims and objectives

  • To relieve hardship, distress and suffering of disadvantaged people, mostly in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka who are deprived as a result of conflicts and natural disasters.
  • To advance the education and training of children, mostly, in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka, particularly in agriculture and industry, by the provision of,  and support to purchase, materials necessary for schooling and training.

 Our Beliefs

In our humble opinion, food, shelter, healthcare and education are fundamental rights of any child whether they are with their parents or not. Most of our children have lost either one or both parents. In some cases parents have abandoned their children. We feel no child should be called an orphan. We should take the place of their parents to help these innocent lives. This is the main reason why we have omitted the word ‘orphan’ from our organisation altogether.

A Child's experiences shape the rest of his or her life. Unless action is taken early, a hurt and damaged child could become a troubled adult.

What we do

The on-going civil war has had devastating effects on the population in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. Thus the main objective of ACF-UK is to provide both urgent humanitarian relief and long-term rehabilitation for children who have lost one or both parents.

ACF-UK has successfully set-up and maintained a sponsorship scheme helping 350 children (as of October 2008). Over the past 13 years of this scheme we have also identified the need for a separate fund in order to support those children who have gained university places within Sri Lanka.

We also have introduced an imaginative scheme to help children in their own homes: the Foster Care Scheme. Under this scheme children receive small financial assistance, but the main aim is to provide material help whilst they enjoy a caring home environment.

In order to help families to look after themselves and to improve the lives of children, the Economic Consultancy House in Kilinochchi has introduced the ‘Income Generating Project’ (TECH Project). This project facilitates the production of nutritional food mainly for children.
